Scott Bunnay, Navy Air Station Meridian&#8217;s commanding officer, says the water will be tested for PFOS (polyfluoroalkyl substances), a component in foam used to fight petroleum fires. <br\/> <br\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Meridian newspaper reports that the substances could be present in the soil or groundwater. Spokeswoman Penny Randall says the base used the foam in training until 1985, and has continued to use it less frequently since to fight fires. <br\/> <br\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The military installation has scheduled a public meeting about the matter on Thursday. <br\/> <br\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><i>This story has been corrected to remove references to contaminants being found in wells, and to show PFOS is an ingredient in firefighting foam, not a separate
