Brian Sorenson&#8217;s time as cruiser Anzio&#8217;s skipper continues, allegations have surfaced that the deposed commanding officer made harassing comments to junior officers in his wardroom, and acted up at a\u00a0<\/span>command event in late August, which <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">have <\/span>prompted a Naval Criminal Investigative Service inquiry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The alleged misconduct at the Aug. 30 wardroom<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">command<\/span> function prompted a preliminary inquiry into Capt Brian Sorenson&#8217;s command, said Naval Surface Force Atlantic spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Myers Vasquez. Sorenson\u00a0was fired on Sept. 10\u00a0and flown off his ship, then conducting pre-deployment exercises in the Atlantic<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">, on Sept. 10<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sorenson, 46, did not return phone messages<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">\/ok?\u00a0calls<\/span> or <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">an <\/span>emails seeking comment by Wednesday<span class=\"rte rte-comment\"> press time<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sorenson is under investigation for a pattern of sexual harassment, according to several Navy officials who asked for anonymity while the command investigation continues. <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">CAN WE SAY HERE THAT THERE&#8217;S NO CRIMINAL INQUIRY YET?\/SF<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The allegation concerns sexually charged comments that Sorenson<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">, who is married,<\/span> is suspected of making to one of his Anzio officers, according to three<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">wo<\/span> sources familiar with investigative updates.\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">with knowledge of the Navy&#8217;s internal message traffic on the firing said the allegation dealt with harassing comments made to one of his officers, thoughse <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vasquez was unable to specify the nature of the allegations emerging against Sorenson while the investigation continues.\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">confirm that.\u00a0ould not confirm that.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;As the command investigation is ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time,&#8221; Vasquez said Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The inquiry, <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">being <\/span>led by the Truman Carrier Strike Group, uncovered another case of alleged misconduct\u00a0by Sorenson that\u00a0is also under investigation.\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">another allegation surfaced and the Truman CSG\u00a0strike group 8 boss Rear Adm. Bret Batchelder ordered a full investigation to begin Sept. 4, Vasquez said.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NCIS spokesman Ed Buice confirmed his agency was investigating the allegations, but would not comment on the details of the case. \u00a0Allegations of unwanted sexual contact typically trigger NCIS involvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In October 2014, <a href=\"http:\/\/archive.navytimes.com\/article\/20141009\/NEWS\/310090054\/Frigate-CO-fired-after-allegedly-groping-chief-s-wife\">the CO of the frigate\u00a0Vandegrift<\/a> was cashiered\u00a0after allegedly groping the buttocks of the wife of one of his chiefs, which also launched an NCIS investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sorenson<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">He<\/span> has been replaced by the cruiser Vella Gulf&#8217;s CO, Capt. Frank Castellano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Castellano is now permanently in command of Anzio, and Vella Gulf, currently in the General Dynamics NASSCO shipyard in Norfolk <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">Norfolk shipyards <\/span>for repairs and maintenance, is awaiting its new skipper.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Capt.
