The stop order remains in effect until May 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The amount \u2014 to be paid to currently approved DOD Personal Property Program (DP3) transportation service providers and approved non-temporary storage providers \u2014 constitutes 60 percent of total revenues obtained from their Defense Department contracts during the same period (March 16 through May 11) from last year, according to the IAM and AMSA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If \u201crelief is not granted, providers will suffer unprecedented economic losses due to the inability to service Department of Defense business,&#8221; the release said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The U.S. Transportation Command <a href=\"https:\/\/move.mil\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-files\/FAQs%20Information%20for%20DP3%20Customers%20Impacted%20by%20%E2%80%98Recent%20Stop%20Movement%E2%80%99.pdf\" target=_blank>advisory<\/a> directed moving companies \u201cto take no action on scheduled pick-ups and pack-outs of household goods,&#8221; while service members were instructed to work through their chain of command in seeking a waiver \u201cto continue the relocation process.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere are typically 55,100 shipments moved from March through May. The average shipment count per week is roughly 6,000 shipments worldwide, this expands within peak season to an average of 9,500 shipments per week,\u201d said John Becker, AMSA interim president, in an emailed statement. \u201cIf the stop movement stays in place, small companies that provide service at the curb could go out of business. According to the AMSA, nearly one-quarter of \u201cof all interstate moves handled by professional movers each year\u201d comes from the federal government \u2014 with the majority related to Defense Department personnel moves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moving.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/govt-relations\/2020\/AMSA-IAM-House-Leadership-Letter.pdf\" target=_blank>letter<\/a> to House of Representatives leadership, the associations said \u201cDoD\u2019s Defense Personal Property Program (DP3) represent roughly 20 percent of all moves globally,&#8221; with the halt order having \u201ca massive impact on the future financial viability, and structural capacity of the household goods moving industry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Officials from the associations noted that U.S. companies were \u201cgetting ready to enter \u2018peak moving\u2019 season, the timeframe when nearly 80 percent of all household goods moves occur.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A companion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moving.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/govt-relations\/2020\/AMSA-IAM-Senate-Leadership-Letter.pdf\" target=_blank>letter<\/a> was also sent to United States Senate leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the face of the novel coronavirus pandemic, the Pentagon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2020\/03\/14\/dod-bans-all-domestic-travel-for-troops-employees-in-response-to-coronavirus-threat\/\" target=_blank>previously announced<\/a> a total domestic travel ban for all troops, civilian personnel and their families until May 11. That announcement came just days after Pentagon officials announced severe restrictions on overseas travel for all defense employees, uniformed and civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new rules covered permanent change of station (PCS) moves and temporary duty (TDY) travel, suspending service members and their families in limbo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Members of all four services found themselves relying on emergency relief funds and unit-by-unit authorizations of per diem to cover their costs while they wait, including troops and families who have packed up their lives, checked out of housing and were preparing to board planes to their new duty stations now suspended in place, Military Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2020\/03\/12\/troops-families-trapped-in-limbo-as-some-pcs-moves-put-on-hold-for-two-months\/\" target=_blank>previously reported. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The requested federal financial relief would be in additional to ongoing discussions between Congressional leadership and the Trump Administration regarding the economy during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to AMSA\u2019s website, their members may qualify for low-interest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sba.gov\/funding-programs\/disaster-assistance\">Economic Injury Disaster Loans<\/a> (EIDLs) from the U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sba.gov\/\">Small Business Administration<\/a> (SBA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Treasury Department said Wednesday it wants to dedicate $500 billion to start issuing direct payments to Americans by early next month as the centerpiece of a $1 trillion plan to stabilize the economy as the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/VirusOutbreak\">coronavirus epidemic<\/a> threatens a body slam to taxpayers and
