Ron Flanders, spokesman for Naval Air Forces in San Diego. <\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/navytimes\/news\/your-navy\/2015\/05\/10\/nas-lemoore-prepares-for-f-35-arrival-more-f-a-18s\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/635666740343758699-nav-lemoore-4jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">NAS Lemoore prepares for F-35 arrival, more F\/A-18s<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The Navy&#039;s transition to the F-35C Lightning II \u2014 coupled with the U.S. military&#039;s shift to the Pacific \u2014 is helping to turn this somewhat remote air station into the largest strike fighter hub in the Navy.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPilots have been going to training in the full-mission simulators in Lemoore and we anticipate them being certified as safe for flight later this year,\u201d he said. Despite the wait, \u201cthey are officially considered an operational squadron, the Navy\u2019s first and only operational <span class=\"js-paste-start-GO4YBHBZMNBGNDU7J3OV7YNIRM\">F-35C <span class=\"js-paste-end-GO4YBHBZMNBGNDU7J3OV7YNIRM\">squadron.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Navy officials are targeting October as a ready date for VFA-147, which will be receiving aircraft from the Roughriders of VFA-125, as well from the factory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"682\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/nav-jsf-lemoore-1.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-62732\" srcset=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/nav-jsf-lemoore-1.jpg.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/nav-jsf-lemoore-1.jpg.jpg?resize=300,205 300w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/nav-jsf-lemoore-1.jpg.jpg?resize=768,524 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Navy understands that the threshold and objective dates, August 2018 and February 2019, are at risk due to a delay in the schedule,\u201d said Lt. Cmdr. The Navy has not yet clarified how that continued transition will unfold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But what is clear is that the Navy has an ambitious plan for the Joint Strike Fighter, with a goal of fielding 20 operational JSF squadrons by the early 2030s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Executing that plan will most likely be the responsibility of a new joint strike fighter wing \u2014 based in Lemoore \u2014 that will debut in the near future.
