Bart Randall said. The rapid tests to be administered this week to 170 recruits and instructors are part of a defense department pilot project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIdeally we\u2019ll get any asymptomatic shedders out of the population to help keep the rest of the guys safe,\u201d said Randall, the Naval Special Warfare Center\u2019s commodore. <\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/militarytimes\/news\/your-military\/2020\/04\/22\/this-is-the-plan-to-get-all-service-members-tested-for-covid-19\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"158\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/kitA.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">This is the plan to get all service members tested for COVID-19<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">More testing will role out in phases, with four tiers of priority.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The recruits returned to training Monday after classes were paused March 16 as leaders established safety standards amid the pandemic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are noticeable differences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each recruit is checked daily for symptoms of the virus. Instructors are wearing masks and surgical gloves and shouting into megaphones rather than recruits\u2019 faces. Only a limited number of SEAL trainees are allowed into classrooms at a time or during swims and runs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No positive cases have been found so far at the training school for the SEAL recruits or candidates for special warfare boat operators, Randall said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyone showing symptoms of the virus will be immediately pulled from training and evaluated by a medical team and placed into quarantine if determined to be a potential case, Randall said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The basic SEAL training program in Coronado, across the bay from San Diego, tests participants\u2019 physical and psychological strength along with water competency and leadership skills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The program is the first in-person evaluation of a candidate who desires to become a Navy SEAL officer, and it allows sailors to compete against peers in an equitable training environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 65-week program is so grueling that 75 percent of candidates drop out by the end of the first month. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death.
