The Navy has identified a 19-year-old sailor who collapsed at the end of a fitness test on Sept. 24 and died two days later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Electronics Technician Seaman Dalton Andrew Frye, of Chester, West Virginia, collapsed as he neared the end of the 1.5-mile run. He had passed his two previous physical readiness tests with no issues and was not on any weight or physical remedial programs, said Lt. Cmdr.\u00a0Katherine Meadows, spokeswoman for Navy Education and Training Command. CPR was immediately administered; Frye was taken to Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital where he remained comatose until his family opted to take him off life support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Frye enlisted on July 29, 2014, and was enrolled in the Navy’s Data Link Communication System Maintenance School. He was scheduled to graduate on Oct. 5, and report to the destroyer Ramage, which will deploy as part of the Harry S. Truman carrier strike group later this fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his entire family,” Capt. Brent Kyler, commanding officer of Training Support Center Hampton Roads said in a press release. “His loss is felt by our entire community.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A full investigation is underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Frye’s death marked the second during a fitness <\/span>runtest<\/span> in as many weeks in the Hampton Roads region.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chief Engineman (SW\/AW\/EXW) Anthony Tuff died Sept. 15, one day shy of pinning on chief anchors. He collapsed during a routine run with fellow chief petty officer selectees assigned to the carrier Gerald R.
