ST. PAUL, Minn. \u2013 <\/span> The widow of “American Sniper” author Chris Kyle has asked a judge to set aside a jury’s verdict in favor of former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura<\/a> or to order a new trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In filings Thursday, Taya Kyle’s attorneys say the applicable laws and the evidence presented at trial don’t support the jury’s award of $1.8 million for defamation and unjust enrichment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chris Kyle, a former Navy SEAL considered the deadliest sniper in U.S. military history, wrote that he decked Ventura at a California bar in 2006 after Ventura made offensive comments about SEALs. Ventura testified the confrontation never happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taya Kyle’s attorneys say Ventura failed to meet his burden of proving that Chris Kyle’s story was false, and that he made his statements knowing they were false or probably false.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
