Erik M. Ross<\/a> was fired Friday in connection to an \u201calleged off-duty incident,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.navytimes.com\/news\/your-navy\/2019\/05\/30\/navys-2nd-fleet-is-now-operational-focused-on-the-arctic\/\" target=_blank>U.S. 2nd Fleet<\/a> is preparing a probe into the allegations, which called into question the flag officer\u2019s judgment, according to 2nd Fleet spokeswoman Lt. Cmdr. Ashley Hockycko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hockycko declined to elaborate further, citing the ongoing investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.navy.mil\/submit\/display.asp?story_id=110335\" target=_blank>Ross took command<\/a> of the group on July 24. He didn\u2019t return calls seeking comment Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He\u2019s been reassigned temporarily to 2nd Fleet staff pending the probe\u2019s completion and the strike group\u2019s chief of staff \u2014 Capt. Bill Moran didn\u2019t become the Navy\u2019s next CNO<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The Pentagon&#039;s Inspector General released a report on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Until Friday, Ross commanded a strike group that oversaw 23 lower commands and amphibious ships, including more than 11,000 sailors and Marines responsible for conducting amphibious and expeditionary missions from the East Coast to the Mediterranean Sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A career surface warfare officer, Ross arrived at Expeditionary Strike Group 2 after a stint as the president of the Board of Inspection and Survey, according to his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navy.mil\/navydata\/bios\/bio.asp?bioID=996\" target=_blank>command biography<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before that he commanded the amphibious assault ship Bataan from August 2011 to February 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also served on the staff of U.S. Pacific Command and directed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnic.navy.mil\/regions\/cnrma\/installations\/ns_newport\/about\/tenant_commands\/surface_warfare_officers_school_command.html\" target=_blank>Surface Warfare Officers School<\/a>\u2019s Fleet and International Training Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ross pinned on his first star in 2017.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rear Adm.
