Jeffrey Servello assumed command of the ship less than seven months ago and was its executive officer before that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SURFLANT officials declined to provide further detail regarding the relief but said it came about following a command investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Servello said in a text message to Navy Times Thursday that he was looking forward to finishing his time in the Navy \u201cand beginning a new chapter in civilian life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhile deeply disappointed by this decision, I understand that the buck stops with me as the commanding officer, regardless of the circumstance or extenuating details,\u201d said Servello, who also did not provide further details regarding the relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/navytimes\/news\/your-navy\/2021\/12\/30\/uss-montgomery-blue-crew-co-and-xo-fired\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"184\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/mont-co-xo.png.png?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">USS Montgomery blue crew CO and XO fired<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The reliefs were connected to how the leaders handled a sexual harassment investigation, according to a Navy official.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A 2002 U.S. Naval Academy graduate, Servello has been temporarily reassigned to the staff of Naval Surface Squadron 14, and Cmdr. Eric Meyers will serve as interim CO of the warship until a permanent replacement is identified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Servello\u2019s firing comes a week after the Navy fired the commanding officer and executive officer of the littoral combat ship <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navytimes.com\/news\/your-navy\/2021\/12\/30\/uss-montgomery-blue-crew-co-and-xo-fired\/\" target=\"_blank\">Montgomery<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An official told Navy Times that those firings were due to how a sexual harassment investigation was handled.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cmdr.
