Nate Moore said.<br\/><br\/> &#8220;We\u2019re working in an area about the size of the United States of America, trying to find small 30 foot long speedboats that are trying to NOT be found,&#8221; said executive officer Coast Guard Cdr.Matt Waldron.<br\/><br\/> The Coast Guard deployed a ScanEagle drone\u2014an eight-foot unmanned surveillance aircraft similar to drones used by the Army and Navy\u2014during Stratton\u2019s nearly 100 day mission, <a href=\"http:\/\/sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com\/2017\/04\/03\/hugs-tears-and-smiles-welcome-home-coast-guard-cutter\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Link: http:\/\/sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com\/2017\/04\/03\/hugs-tears-and-smiles-welcome-home-coast-guard-cutter\/\">according to the Bay Area\u2019s CBS affiliate<\/a>. It was the first time the drone had been deployed by the Stratton, allowing for hours of airborne surveillance hidden from smugglers.<br\/><br\/> The efforts of the Stratton were complimented by the Cutters Spencer, Sherman and Mohawk.
