The charges stem from four separate incidents involving three women who were Naval Academy midshipmen at the time of the assaults.  <\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/navytimes\/news\/your-navy\/2019\/10\/22\/naval-academy-accuses-midshipman-of-sex-crimes-against-classmates\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"160\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Keago-MAIN.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Naval Academy accuses midshipman of sex crimes against classmates<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The defendant starred on the Marine Corps soccer team, too.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.navytimes.com\/news\/your-navy\/2020\/07\/26\/coronavirus-symptoms-delays-sentencing-for-midshipman-in-naval-academy-sexual-assault-case\/\" target=_blank>The court-martial was delayed<\/a> after Keago showed symptoms of COVID-19. He has since tested negative for the disease caused by the coronavirus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reneau Kennedy, a psychologist and government witness who studies forensic recidivism, testified last month that Keago has a low rehabilitation potential.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In closing arguments, Lt. Cmdr. Chris Cox said criminal charges did not prevent him from attempting to sexually assault women. He noted the last incident, which happened after Keago knew he was charged with sexual assault. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cConfinement is the only way to stop it,\u201d Cox said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Defense attorney Lt. Cmdr. Andrea Kissner urged the members to focus on Keago as a father, a son, a brother and a midshipman. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMidshipman Keago is a person,\u201d Kissner said. \u201cAnd as a person, Midshipman Keago deserves a fair sentence.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sentence represented nearly a middle ground between the defense and government.
