Kyle Raines said that she \u201cwas found unresponsive and pronounced deceased on the ship\u201d on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Navy is withholding additional details pending notification of her next-of-kin.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/navytimes\/flashpoints\/2019\/05\/19\/us-conducts-navy-exercises-in-arabian-sea\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/AP19139113824821.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">US conducts Navy exercises in Arabian Sea<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The U.S. Navy says it has conducted exercises in the Arabian Sea with a carrier strike group ordered to the Persian Gulf to counter an unspecified threat from Iran.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the time of her death, the San Antonio-class warship was tied up at Naval Station Rota for a regularly-scheduled port visit, Raines said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Homeported in Norfolk, the Arlington is part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navy.mil\/submit\/display.asp?story_id=108208\" target=_blank>Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group.<\/a> The ARG departed Virginia on Dec. 17 with the Arlington making a brief pit stop the following day to load supplies at the General Cargo Terminal in North Carolina\u2019s Port of Morehead City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>UPDATE: <\/b>On Thursday, Navy officials in Spain identified the deceased officer as Lt. Kaylie Ludwig, the medical officer of the Arlington. She began her service in 2013 and joined the Arlington in July of 2018. In a prepared statement, U.S. 6th Fleet spokesman Cmdr. Kyle Raines said that Lt. Ludwig \u201cwas found unresponsive and pronounced deceased\u201d on board the warship. Navy Times extends condolences to Lt.
