{"id":42225,"date":"2024-12-30T19:23:32","date_gmt":"2024-12-30T19:23:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/navytimes\/uncategorized\/2024\/12\/30\/eighty-nine-air-force-jobs-now-eligible-for-retention-bonuses\/"},"modified":"2026-08-20T16:12:39","modified_gmt":"2026-08-20T16:12:39","slug":"eighty-nine-air-force-jobs-now-eligible-for-retention-bonuses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/navytimes\/news\/your-navy\/2024\/12\/30\/eighty-nine-air-force-jobs-now-eligible-for-retention-bonuses\/","title":{"rendered":"89 Air Force jobs now eligible for retention bonuses"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eighty-nine Air Force career fields will be eligible for retention bonuses in 2025, according to a service memo leaked online last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Though the list was not made readily available by the service, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo?fbid=920469506881326&#038;set=pcb.1127114365742731\" target=\"_blank\">copy<\/a> of it providing the names of the eligible career fields circulated on social media, making an appearance on the popular Facebook group, \u201cAir Force amn\/nco\/snco.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An Air Force spokesperson confirmed the list\u2019s authenticity, whose existence was first reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/daily-news\/2024\/12\/27\/air-force-expands-retention-bonuses-its-most-crucial-jobs-2025.html\" target=\"_blank\">Military.com<\/a> on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The document, titled \u201cUnited States Air Force Fiscal Year 2025 Selective Retention Bonus Listing,\u201d details 89 career fields eligible for bonuses that begin at $180,000 and cap out at $360,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2024, 73 career fields were eligible for retention bonuses, according to Military.com.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/your-air-force\/2024\/03\/11\/air-force-plans-for-more-flying-flat-workforce-in-2025\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"193\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/240125-F-IP109-9310.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Air Force plans for more flying, flat workforce in 2025<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The Air Force&#039;s fiscal year 2025 budget request largely maintains the current workforce while boosting research-and-development spending.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The list includes a myriad of career fields, such as airborne cryptologic language analyst-Chinese, pararescue, special mission aviator-MC-130J, human intelligence specialist, special reconnaissance, refuel\/bomber aircraft maintenance craftsman, explosive ordnance disposal and surgical technologist-urology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In March, the Department of the Air Force requested $217.5 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, with the Air Force making up $188.1 billion of that ask, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2024\/03\/11\/air-force-plans-for-more-flying-flat-workforce-in-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\">Military Times previously reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The request targeted a $1.1 billion allotment for bonus and retention pay for 118,000 critical positions, including $327 million for aviation jobs and $21 million to retain cyber specialists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bonuses also come after the Air Force fell short of meeting recruitment goals by 10% in 2023. The service <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2024\/12\/18\/air-force-expands-waivers-for-recruits-with-asthma-food-allergies\/\" target=\"_blank\">recently<\/a> expanded medical waivers to cover asthma, food allergies, and hearing loss, in a bid to bring more recruits into the fold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new eligibility list went into effect Dec. 16, according to the document, and can be viewed in its entirety <a
