E. coli bacteria was found in the potable water aboard the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln last month, but Navy officials said Friday that they do not believe that was the cause of the ship\u2019s drinking water becoming cloudy and smelly a few weeks ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere have been no confirmed cases of illness related to the ship\u2019s water, but the Abraham Lincoln medical department continues to closely monitor their Sailors for any potential symptoms,\u201d the Navy said in a statement<\/a> Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crew first noticed cloudy, odorous water on Sept. 21 as the ship operated off southern California, according to Naval Air Forces officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All potable water tanks were tested the following day, and E. coli was found in three of the carrier\u2019s 26 potable water tanks, according to a Friday statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those tanks were isolated and secured from the potable water system, and the ship provided bottled water to sailors.<\/p>\n\n\n\t
