Frederica Wilson was practically a member of their family and was among a group of people listening to Trump\u2019s call on a speaker phone as they drove to receive Sgt. La David Johnson\u2019s body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe president said that he knew what he signed up for but it hurts anyway,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cAnd it made me cry because I was very angry at the tone of his voice and how he said it. He couldn\u2019t remember my husband\u2019s name. The only way he could remember my husband\u2019s name was he told me he had my husband\u2019s report in front of him and that\u2019s when he actually said La David.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhatever Ms. Wilson said was not fabricated,\u201d Johnson <a>said<\/a> in her first interview since her husband\u2019s death. \u201cWhat she said was 100 percent correct.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sgt. Johnson and three comrades died Oct. 4 in Africa when militants tied to the Islamic State attacked them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said she also wants to know why she hasn\u2019t been allowed to see her husband\u2019s body. He was buried on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI need to see him so I will know that that is my husband,\u201d she said. \u201cThey won\u2019t show me a finger, a hand. I know my husband\u2019s body from head to toe. And they won\u2019t let me see anything. I don\u2019t know what\u2019s in that box. It could be empty for all I know. But I need to see my husband. I haven\u2019t seen him since he came home.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump tweeted that Wilson \u201cfabricated\u201d his statement and the fight escalated through the week. Trump in other tweets called her \u201cwacky\u201d and accused her of \u201cSECRETLY\u201d listening to the phone call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Johnson said everyone in the car was listening to Trump\u2019s call. \u201cThe phone was on speaker phone. Why would we fabricate something like that?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Asked if she had anything to say to Trump now, Johnson said, \u201cNo, I don\u2019t have nothing to say to him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The war of words between the president and Wilson began Tuesday when the Florida congresswoman recounted Trump\u2019s conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wilson has been a friend of the Johnson family for years and Sgt. Johnson was in her 5000 Role Models program that pairs African-American boys with mentors who prepare them for college, vocational school or the military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Johnson said she had known her husband since they were about 6 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Johnson said she wants the world to know \u201chow great of a soldier my husband was.\u201d She also said he was \u201ca loving and caring father and husband.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said she learned her husband was missing in action when military members came to her house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey told me there was a massive gunfire and that my husband, as of Oct. 4 was missing,\u201d she said. \u201cThey didn\u2019t know his whereabouts or they didn\u2019t know where he was or where to find him. A couple of days later is when they told me he went from missing to killed in action.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The
