Cashiers in the no-bagger lanes collect the payment, then customers bag the goods and take them to their vehicles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Full-service lanes with baggers are still available, and commissaries have long had self-service checkout lanes without baggers. There\u2019s no set time frame for the test, said Kevin Robinson, spokesman for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/pay-benefits\/military-benefits\/2017\/05\/04\/new-pricing-program-private-label-goods-part-of-major-commissary-overhaul\/\" title=\"\" class=\"selected-link\">Defense Commissary Agency<\/a>: \u201cIt will run as long as needed to gather sufficient customer feedback and allow stores to comment on how it\u2019s working at their locations.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"apester-media\" data-media-id=\"5a8721f3184ab4000152ed06\" height=\"416\"><\/div><script async src=\"\/\/static.apester.com\/js\/sdk\/v2.0\/apester-javascript-sdk.min.js\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Baggers are a long tradition in commissaries. They work for tips and are not commissary employees \u2015 they are self-employed under a license agreement with the installation commander. They sign an agreement with a store director to conduct themselves in a certain manner when engaged in their bagging and carryout duties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Often, this arrangement provides a job for military children and others in the military community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Customers are not required to use baggers. There\u2019s long been discussion about whether customers feel pressured to use their services, and how much of a tip is appropriate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some have said they\u2019ve encountered baggers who are rude or aggressive. Many appreciate the services, including elderly shoppers and those juggling young children.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/militarytimes\/management\/pay-benefits\/2017\/06\/11\/commissaries-rank-high-in-national-survey-of-grocery-shoppers\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/commissary-fort-campbell.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Commissaries rank high in national survey of grocery shoppers<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">Military commissaries ranked among the top 10 grocery stores in a survey of shoppers published in the July edition of Consumer Reports.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Commissary officials received the feedback from customers who want to bag their own groceries as a result of \u201cpersonal outreach\u201d to installation commanders and their leadership chain by DeCA\u2019s interim director and CEO, retired Rear Adm. Robert J. Bianchi, said Robinson.
