NEW ORLEANS \u2014 Family and friends gathered at the National WWII Museum on Saturday to remember Lawrence Brooks<\/a>, who was the oldest surviving World War II veteran until his death on Jan. 5 at age 112<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the service, Brooks\u2019 flag-draped coffin was front and center. The museum\u2019s Victory Belles \u2014 who Brooks loved to hear perform \u2014 were among several to pay tribute to his life, harmoniously singing \u201cLift Every Voice and Sing\u201d and \u201cAmazing Grace.\u201d Another soloist sang a medley of songs, including \u201cOh Freedom,\u201d \u201cAmerica\u201d and \u201cGlory, Glory Hallelujah!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
