Col. Robert Carver said no further details have been released on the death because officials are still working to notify the service member\u2019s next of kin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe individual was not on duty at the time, and the incident is under investigation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Guardsman was one of about 5,000 service members still deployed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2021\/03\/09\/pentagon-set-to-ok-extending-national-guard-deployment-at-us-capitol\/\" target=_blank>security mission on Capitol Hill<\/a>, which came in response to the Jan. 6 attack on Congress. Hundreds of supporters of former President Donald Trump unsuccessfully attempted to disrupt lawmakers\u2019 certification of the November election results. Gen. Russel Honor\u00e9 recommended Congress create a permanent Guard unit to provide \u201crapid response\u201d security capabilities in the event of future violence on Capitol
