{"id":53495,"date":"2019-12-09T17:01:41","date_gmt":"2019-12-09T17:01:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/navytimes\/uncategorized\/2019\/12\/09\/heres-when-your-military-2019-tax-statement-will-be-ready\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T09:20:10","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T09:20:10","slug":"heres-when-your-military-2019-tax-statement-will-be-ready","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/navytimes\/management\/pay-benefits\/2019\/12\/09\/heres-when-your-military-2019-tax-statement-will-be-ready\/","title":{"rendered":"Here\u2019s when your military 2019 tax statement will be ready"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tax statements for all <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/pay-benefits\/2019\/02\/04\/military-tax-tips-new-tax-law-is-mostly-good-news\/\" target=_blank>members<\/a> of the active duty and Reserve components will be available online no later than Jan. 22, according to the Defense Finance and Accounting Service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dates vary by the different components:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Jan. 7: Reserve Army, Navy, Air Force W-2 statements<\/li><li>Jan. 11: Active and Reserve Marine W-2 statements<\/li><li>Jan. 22: Active Army, Navy, Air Force W-2 statements<\/li><li>Dec. 19: Retiree 1099R statements<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For those who receive their tax statements by mail, your statement will be mailed no later than Jan. 31.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re looking to jump on filing that tax return if you think you\u2019ll get a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/pay-benefits\/2019\/01\/23\/heres-how-some-military-spouses-could-get-potentially-thousands-of-dollars-in-tax-refunds\/\" target=_blank>refund<\/a>, you can\u2019t do that immediately. The Internal Revenue Service doesn\u2019t start accepting tax returns generally until late January. That start date hasn\u2019t yet been announced, but it should be announced in early January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The IRS generally issues refunds in less than 21 calendar days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Service members and their families have options for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/pay-benefits\/mil-money\/2018\/02\/15\/heres-where-troops-and-military-retirees-can-go-for-free-tax-help\/\" target=_blank>free tax preparation<\/a>, through on-base tax centers with trained, certified volunteers who also have training in military-specific tax questions. In addition, Military OneSource offers free MilTax Preparation and e-Filing software starting in mid-January. Military tax consultants are also available through Military OneSource for those with questions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first W-2s will be ready online by Jan.
