And as is tradition with navies around the world, a pressing matter had to be attended to immediately upon exiting the hulking ship \u2014 the ancient mariner rite of drinking to the point of annihilation.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/militarytimes\/off-duty\/military-culture\/2018\/08\/20\/commence-jealousy-the-royal-navy-just-opened-a-pub-on-its-prized-new-carrier\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"197\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/HMS.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Commence jealousy \u2014 the Royal Navy just opened a pub on its prized new carrier<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The &#039;Queen\u2019s Head&#039; was christened last week aboard the Queen Elizabeth and is available to the officers and senior enlisted.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With only a few days on land before heading back to sea, the Queen Elizabeth\u2019s occupants stormed the beaches of Jacksonville ready to declare war and conquer any and all alcoholic beverages that stood in their way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think we need a modern day Paul Revere to let us know that the British are coming,\u201d Keith Doherty, a general manager at Lynch\u2019s Irish Pub in Jacksonville Beach, told the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jacksonville.com\/news\/20180907\/beach-bars-restaurants-in-northeast-florida-scramble-to-handle-british-sailors\" target=_blank>Florida Times-Union<\/a>. \u201cI know a lot of places were understaffed and that caused a lot of issues.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The plight of understaffed service, however, wound up being on the lighter side of the evening\u2019s tribulations, as the number of alcohol-induced escapades inevitably soared Wednesday night and into Thursday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As any who have deployed or spent time on ship can attest, the accumulation of aggression while confined to tight quarters in the middle of an ocean can have a profound impact on the human psyche.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This often manifests through booze-fueled skirmishes or other shenanigans when personnel find themselves liberated from the bowels of a floating prison and once more on the familiar environs of dry land. It\u2019s <i>practically<\/i> tradition, and the Brits dared not break from it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Doherty told the Times-Union he heard the number of such skirmishes were in the hundreds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><i>All the angry people, where do they all come from? <\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These tall tales were refuted by Sgt. Larry Smith of the Jacksonville Beach Police Department, who told the Times-Union that six Queen Elizabeth sailors had been taken into custody for drunken and disorderly conduct, which included public urination and fighting. Three sailors were charged with resisting arrest, and at least one needed to be tased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What would a Florida-based story be, after all, without at least one person necessitating a tasing?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fights with the host Floridians, meanwhile, were reportedly nonexistent, as the blokes from across the pond evidently managed to keep the raucous behavior to themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese guys come in town periodically,\u201d Smith said. \u201cThey beat the mess out of each other and fight each other more than anything, but once they pick up their teeth off the ground they are best friends.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/militarytimes\/off-duty\/military-culture\/2018\/08\/07\/naked-british-army-captain-destroys-toilet-in-harrowing-bathroom-escape\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"157\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/baehwerhaerh.png.png?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Naked British Army captain destroys toilet in harrowing bathroom escape<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">He unleashed hell on the porcelain-filled confines, ripping the toilet and steel handrails from their foundation on his way to freedom.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One complaint from bar and restaurant owners about the visiting seamen was nearly universal: tipping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey tipped a little under 10 percent,&#8221;
