operations at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-navy\/2021\/03\/09\/jill-biden-tours-whidbey-island-naval-air-station\/\" target=\"_blank\">Naval Air Station Whidbey Island<\/a>, according to a report U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Richard Creatura filed in a lawsuit over the growing fleet of electronic warfare attack aircraft, called Growlers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The federal lawsuit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-navy\/2019\/08\/01\/washington-states-lawsuit-against-navy-puts-whidbey-island-officials-at-odds\/?contentQuery=%7B%22section%22%3A%22%2Fhome%22%2C%22exclude%22%3A%22%2Fnews%2Fyour-military%22%2C%22from%22%3A115%2C%22size%22%3A10%7D&#038;contentFeatureId=f0fmoahPVC2AbfL-2-1-8\" target=\"_blank\">filed in 2019<\/a> argues the Navy did not adequately review the potential environmental and public health impacts that increasing its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-navy\/2019\/03\/15\/whidbey-island-to-get-36-more-growlers\/\" target=\"_blank\">EA-18G Growler fleet<\/a> from 82 to 118 jets would have on Whidbey Island and surrounding areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The state Attorney General\u2019s Office and the nonprofit Citizens of Ebey\u2019s Reserve want the court to invalidate the Navy\u2019s environmental impact statement and require further study.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/navytimes\/news\/your-navy\/2019\/09\/16\/island-residents-grumbling-over-growlers\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"136\" Growlers<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">It\u2019s the second recent case challenging the Navy\u2019s operations; the state of Washington sued in July, saying the Navy failed to adequately consider the effect the expanded flight operations would have on people or wildlife.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Magistrate Judge\u2019s [filing] confirms what we\u2019ve been saying all along \u2014 the Navy turned a blind eye to data that did not support its goal of increasing Growler operations, and it did this \u2018at the expense of the public and the environment,\u2019\u201d Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson said in a statement provided to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goskagit.com\/news\/judge-finds-navy-eis-was-lacking-in-review-of-jet-noise-impacts-to-children-birds\/article_00760dbf-c4cf-55df-93f4-e944f57de268.html\">Skagit Valley Herald<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Creatura said the Navy erred in its analysis of aircraft noise impacts to child learning and bird health, as well as of greenhouse gas emissions and the potential for relocating the Growler fleet to another military base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those involved in the lawsuit have until Jan. 7 to file objections to
