Dole Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Wichita for years received free dinners, sporting event tickets and digital devices from officials at Medtronic \u2014 a medical device maker \u2014 in exchange for a lucrative contract to provide equipment for vascular surgeries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report also details how physicians overused Medtronic devices during surgeries, benefitting the company but not necessarily improving patients\u2019 health.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/militarytimes\/veterans\/2023\/02\/10\/exec-overseeing-va-health-records-overhaul-to-leave-this-month\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"157\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Dr.-Terry-Adirim.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Official overseeing VA health records overhaul to leave this month<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">Dr. Terry Adirim has served in the role since late 2021 and will leave on Feb. 25.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Feb. 16, Kansas Republican <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2020\/01\/07\/meet-the-new-boss-moran-named-chairman-of-senate-vets-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sens. Jerry Moran<\/a> and Roger Marshall sent a letter to VA officials demanding more details on the procedures and asking for the department to \u201creach out to all veterans who had received care at the catheterization lab\u201d between 2011 and 2018, when the procedures stopped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a meeting with reporters on Tuesday. VA Under Secretary for Health Dr. Shereef Elnahal said department leaders are investigating the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf there\u2019s anything that leads to adverse clinical quality and safety outcomes for veterans, that needs our prompt attention and focus,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cRight now, a review is happening. And we will proceed with it as swiftly as we can \u2026 and we will be in touch with the veteran community once we have the results of that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both the VA Inspector General\u2019s Office and the department\u2019s clinical event response team are looking into the allegations, which includes a review of the records of all veterans who visited the Kansas medical center\u2019s vascular specialty office. Elnahal said he does not believe any other sites were involved in similar relationships with Medtronic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Kansas medical center stopped performing the procedures in question five years ago, in part because of the rising costs of the equipment, officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Medtronic officials told ProPublica that the
