Mohsin said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-edmi\/pr\/former-certified-registered-nurse-anesthetist-ann-arbor-va-hospital-sentenced-3-years\" target=\"_blank\">press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While Elizabeth Prophitt, age 39, of Saline, Michigan, was originally indicted on 25 counts of obtaining controlled substances by fraud, misrepresentation or deceit, she pleaded guilty to only five counts of obtaining controlled substances by fraud, misrepresentation or deceit, according to the plea agreement she signed July 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prophitt additionally agreed to pay $1,482.90 in restitution to the VA, according to court documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prophitt used her position from July 2018 to February 2019<b> <\/b>as a surgical nurse to steal more than 2,200 vials of Schedule II &amp; IV controlled substances \u2014 drugs<a href=\"https:\/\/www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov\/schedules\/#:~:text=Schedule%20II%2FIIN%20Controlled%20Substances%20(2%2F2N)&#038;text=Examples%20of%20Schedule%20II%20narcotics,opium%2C%20codeine%2C%20and%20hydrocodone.\" target=\"_blank\"> classified by the Drug Enforcement Administration<\/a> as having highly addictive properties that are likely to be abused. These controlled substances included fentanyl, hydromorphone and morphine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In order to gain access to the drugs for her own use, Prophitt falsified patient records, abusing patient\u2019s personal information. Prophitt would go to the hospital on days she wasn\u2019t on the schedule or after regular working hours, often stealing the vials directly from the hospital\u2019s substance dispensing systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe will not tolerate medical professionals stealing controlled substances intended for the care of our nation\u2019s veterans,\u201d Acting Special Agent in Charge Gavin McClaren of the Veterans Affairs\u2019 Office of Inspector General\u2019s Central Field Office said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brandy R. McMillion, Deputy-Chief of the Justice Department\u2019s Health Care Fraud Unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The investigation into Prophitt was conducted by special agents from the
