Mike DeWine, contradicting a statement the general made about the altercation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Army Maj. Gen. John Harris, Ohio\u2019s adjutant general, had claimed that he put his hands up to avoid the reporter bumping into him, but the video aired Thursday by NewsNation appears to show Harris initiating the altercation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ohio State Highway Patrol body camera footage released by the cable television network shows Harris moving toward Lambert as he records his report, poking his left hand into Lambert\u2019s chest and pushing him backward. An Ohio law enforcement officer then proceeds to separate Harris, apparently to try to deescalate the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement, Harris told NewsNation he reflexively raised his hands to Lambert\u2019s chest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Bodycam footage shows the arrest of NewsNation reporter <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/EvanLambertTV?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@EvanLambertTV<\/a>. I instinctively put my hands on his chest to keep him from bumping into me, which I felt was inevitable if I had not protected myself. I immediately removed my hands when there was space between us \u2015 we were in contact for less than a second.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His statement contradicts the video, which appears to show him seeking out a stationary Lambert, raising his hand and pushing him backward as he speaks to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGovernor DeWine is aware of the OSHP Body Cam video,\u201d Dan Tierney, DeWine\u2019s press secretary, told Military Times on Friday. \u201cWhile the video does not show the complete interaction between Mr. Lambert and Major General Harris, the video is consistent with both Lambert\u2019s and Harris\u2019 statements regarding the incident.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The video cuts away for a split second as Harris walks toward Lambert, then moves back to the altercation as Harris pushes Lambert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Asked to clarify how Harris\u2019s statement of putting up his hands in self-defense is consistent with the video of him poking his hand into Lambert\u2019s chest, Tierney said the statement reflected how Harris felt during the interaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Harris did not address why he got involved in the situation at the outset, when state police approached Lambert as he reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ohio National Guard did not immediately respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The National Guard Bureau referred all comments to Ohio, as Harris\u2019s full-time Guard status puts him under direct command of the state\u2019s governor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Harris took over as the adjutant general in 2019, after eight years as the assistant adjutant general.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2400\" height=\"3000\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/mg-harris.jpeg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-107380\" srcset=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/mg-harris.jpeg.jpg 2400w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/mg-harris.jpeg.jpg?resize=240,300 240w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/mg-harris.jpeg.jpg?resize=768,960 768w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/mg-harris.jpeg.jpg?resize=819,1024 819w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/mg-harris.jpeg.jpg?resize=1229,1536 1229w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/mg-harris.jpeg.jpg?resize=1638,2048 1638w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2400px) 100vw, 2400px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Army Maj.
