{"id":75537,"date":"2023-10-31T20:18:28","date_gmt":"2023-10-31T20:18:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/navytimes\/uncategorized\/2023\/10\/31\/campaign-medal-for-iraq-service-gets-reinstated\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T15:07:37","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T15:07:37","slug":"campaign-medal-for-iraq-service-gets-reinstated","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/navytimes\/news\/your-navy\/2023\/10\/31\/campaign-medal-for-iraq-service-gets-reinstated\/","title":{"rendered":"Campaign medal for Iraq service gets reinstated"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of Defense resurrected a campaign medal for service in Iraq amid a renewal of threats against U.S. troops in the Middle East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Pentagon reinstated the Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal in August for qualified troops serving in Iraq, according to a memo signed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2023\/09\/19\/former-pentagon-manpower-and-diversity-chief-running-for-congress\/#:~:text=Cisneros%20told%20Military%20Times%20before,the%20work%20%E2%80%9Cmore%20than%20demographics.\" target=\"_blank\">then-Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness<\/a> Gilbert Cisneros. in Iraq and another 900 in Syria<\/a>, while a growing number of service members and American assets are moving to the Middle East as fighting intensifies between Israel and the militant group
