{"id":83327,"date":"2025-08-08T15:35:24","date_gmt":"2025-08-08T15:35:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/navytimes\/uncategorized\/2025\/08\/08\/northrop-grumman-drops-strike-fighter-concept-art-on-website\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T20:08:05","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T20:08:05","slug":"northrop-grumman-drops-strike-fighter-concept-art-on-website","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/navytimes\/home\/left-column\/2025\/08\/08\/northrop-grumman-drops-strike-fighter-concept-art-on-website\/","title":{"rendered":"Northrop Grumman drops strike fighter concept art on website"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northropgrumman.com\/what-we-do\/aircraft\/naval-aviation\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.northropgrumman.com\/what-we-do\/aircraft\/naval-aviation\">Northrop Grumman released images<\/a> of its version of the U.S. Navy\u2019s highly anticipated sixth-generation strike fighter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The defense behemoth posted concept art of the F\/A-XX on its website, as competition for the contract heats up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The image appeared on the Northrop Grumman website, under its Naval Aviation section, with text emblazoned across it that reads, \u201cProject Power Anywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s unclear when the image was posted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The artwork doesn\u2019t reveal much, but does showcase a sleek-looking fighter with a long, sharp nose covered in shadows aboard an aircraft carrier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The F\/A-XX, which will succeed the F\/A-18 Super Hornet, is slated to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/air\/2025\/04\/08\/fa-xx-could-be-navys-last-piloted-fighter-bring-greater-range\/?contentFeatureId=f0fmoahPVC2AbfL-2-1-8&amp;contentQuery=%7B%22includeSections%22:%22\/home%22,%22excludeSections%22:%22%22,%22feedSize%22:10,%22feedOffset%22:295%7D\" rel=\"\">wield new technologies<\/a> including artificial intelligence and machine learning, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navy.mil\/Leadership\/Flag-Officer-Biographies\/Search\/Article\/2236469\/rear-admiral-michael-donnelly\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.navy.mil\/Leadership\/Flag-Officer-Biographies\/Search\/Article\/2236469\/rear-admiral-michael-donnelly\/\">Rear Adm. Michael Donnelly<\/a>, who spoke at the 2025 Navy League\u2019s Sea Air Space conference. The upgrades will provide more battle space awareness and sharpen decision-making for naval aviators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Boeing is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/naval\/2023\/02\/23\/boeing-will-close-super-hornet-production-line-in-2025\/\" rel=\"\">set to end<\/a> its F\/A-18E-F Super Hornet production line in 2025 and stopped taking orders for them in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Donnelly said that the arrival of the fighter could usher in a new era in which unmanned and manned aircraft operate together. He also said the fighter would be expected to fly more than 25% farther than the Navy\u2019s current fighters before needing a refuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Currently, the F\/A-18 Super Hornet and carrier-based F-35C Joint Strike Fighter can fly more than 1,200 nautical miles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Trump announced the Air Force\u2019s sixth-gen jet \u2014 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/News\/Article-Display\/Article\/4131345\/air-force-awards-contract-for-next-generation-air-dominance-ngad-platform-f-47\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/News\/Article-Display\/Article\/4131345\/air-force-awards-contract-for-next-generation-air-dominance-ngad-platform-f-47\/\">Boeing F-47 Next Generation Air Dominance<\/a> fighter \u2014 at the Oval Office on March 21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With Lockheed Martin apparently out of the contract race, Northrop Grumman and Boeing appear to be the frontrunners for the F\/A-XX contract, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/air\/2025\/04\/08\/fa-xx-could-be-navys-last-piloted-fighter-bring-greater-range\/?contentFeatureId=f0fmoahPVC2AbfL-2-1-8&amp;contentQuery=%7B%22includeSections%22%3A%22%2Fhome%22%2C%22excludeSections%22%3A%22%22%2C%22feedSize%22%3A10%2C%22feedOffset%22%3A295%7D\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/air\/2025\/04\/08\/fa-xx-could-be-navys-last-piloted-fighter-bring-greater-range\/?contentFeatureId=f0fmoahPVC2AbfL-2-1-8&amp;contentQuery=%7B%22includeSections%22%3A%22%2Fhome%22%2C%22excludeSections%22%3A%22%22%2C%22feedSize%22%3A10%2C%22feedOffset%22%3A295%7D\">according to earlier Military Times reporting<\/a>.
