So we\u2019re looking at schedule delays and inefficiencies and so forth. That isn\u2019t a particular program, that\u2019s [major defense acquisition programs] in general,\u201d Ellen Lord, the Pentagon\u2019s top acquisition official, told reporters Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/coronavirus\/2020\/04\/08\/the-pentagons-supply-chain-faces-an-economy-under-siege\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"212\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ap17004853998404.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">The Pentagon\u2019s supply chain faces an economy under siege<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">It&#039;s survival of the funded, as defense contractors up and down the Defense Department&#039;s supply chain battle to stay afloat.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While Lord did not name specific programs that could be delayed, Possenriede said Tuesday that disruptions to the F-35 program were likely due to pressures faced by domestic and international companies within the jet\u2019s global supply chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere are local distancing requirements that are being more stringently applied across the globe. There is workforce disruption,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019ve actually had some issues with shipping constraints.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most recently, Lockheed\u2019s supply chain team discovered an issue with suppliers\u2019 performance-based payment invoices, which get delivered to Lockheed after certain milestones are completed, Possenriede said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere are a couple suppliers that are going to be delinquent in April. Some of them are for administrative reasons \u2014 we\u2019ll work through that. That\u2019s just timing. Some of them is due to them not achieving their milestones,\u201d he said. \u201cMost of it is going to be COVID-related. We\u2019re looking at that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite the challenges in keeping F-35 production smooth, there has been little change to other aspects of the program, Possenriede said. Development and follow-on modernization activities have continued with \u201clittle to no impact.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And while Lockheed contractors have faced some barriers reporting to work at certain bases where they help perform repairs or stand up maintenance operations, Possenriede said there has been minimal impact to F-35
