SAN ANTONIO, Texas – James Green has a special commitment to San Antonio’s homeless. He wants them to know they matter and he wants the displaced to know he cares.
“I just wanted to relieve everybody for a day,” Green said.
The 21 year old is an airman at Lackland Air Force Base. About a week ago, Green said he came up with an idea to reach out to help a homeless man in his spare time. He said he had seen a similar idea online.
His nearly eight minute long video is heartfelt, compassionate, and courageous. “What’s up guys my name is James Green and I’m with my boy Rudan C,” said Green on the video. “And, today we’re going to be doing a homeless makeover.”
In his car with his friend, James finds a homeless man, Steve-O, on San Antonio’s south side. Steve-O didn’t decline the airman’s offer.
Green took Steve-O to get a hot meal, to get a free haircut, shopping, and even gave him a hotel room — at no cost — for the night.
“I didn’t know what to expect,” said Green. “We found the perfect guy and he was all for it.”
Green’s mother said her son has always found a way to give back since he was a little boy.
“I am the mother but he has been the one who has taught me more about having faith and going for what you want,” said Carolyn Hornsby.
Green was deployed to Afghanistan for six months. He works an overnight shift. However, he’s trying to make difference. In fact, his YouTube video has inspired other airman to donate to Steve-O.
“Expect a part two,” said Green. Steve-O has a job interview.
