GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Grand Forks Air Force Base is under a new command.
Col. Paul Bauman on Wednesday turned over command to Col. Rodney Lewis. Command changes are routine every few years.
Lewis comes to the 319th Air Base Wing from the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska.
Under Bauman’s tenure, the base took the huge step of entering into an agreement to lease some of its space for the nation’s first unmanned aircraft business park, making Grand Forks a leader in drone system technology.
WDAZ-TV reports Bauman is now heading to Virginia, where he will be promoted to the rank of brigadier general and will serve as the new deputy director for future joint force development.
