An airman assigned to Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico, was killed in a motorcycle crash on Saturday, officials said on Monday.
Airman 1st Class Andrew Dare, 24, was riding a motorcycle on Interstate 10, south of Las Cruces, New Mexico, when the crash occurred at about 9:15 a.m. local time, a state police report says. Investigators believe that Dare’s motorcycle hit the left rear corner of another vehicle, went into the median and hit the median cable barrier.
Dare was pronounced dead at the scene, the state police report says. The crash is under investigation.
Dare was assigned to the 49th Maintenance Squadron, Air Force officials said Monday. Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, Dare entered active duty in January and had been stationed at Holloman since August. He was in the munitions systems career field.
“Holloman is deeply saddened by this loss,” Col. Robert Kiebler, 49th Wing commander, said in a wing news release. “We ask everyone to please keep Andrew’s family in your prayers as they deal with this tragedy, as well as all of the members of Team Holloman as we mourn this loss.”
