A list of names of basic-branch first lieutenants recommended for promotion by the Army Competitive Category captain board that met in April will be released Thursday, July 24.
Most of the officers recommended for advancement by the annual board are members of year group 2011, and were promoted to first lieutenant April 1, 2012 through March 31, 2013.
The zone of consideration also included officers with O-2 dates of rank of March 31, 2012, and earlier, who previously had been considered, and passed over, for advancement to captain. Officers in this category who were passed over by the April board are subject to involuntary separation.
The new captain list does not require Senate confirmation and can be used for promotions are soon as they are scheduled by the Army, presumably in September or October.
August promotions will reduce the 2013 list, which originally contained nearly 5,000 names, to just 250 names.
