Applications are being accepted for the School of Advanced Military Studies course that begins in June 2015.
The online application site for Class AMSP2016 will be open Aug. 8-Sept. 12. Exams and interviews will be conducted Sept. 22-28, and soldiers will be selected by a board that meets Nov. 3-7.
The selection list will be released no later than Dec. 17.
The demanding 12-month regimen of study provides graduate-level education in military art and science to midcareer commissioned officers, warrant officers and Army civilians who have demonstrated high potential for command and/or senior leadership duties.
Graduates are colloquially known as “Jedi Knights.”
Military graduates incur a two-year active-duty service obligation, and will serve a 12-month utilization tour with an operational unit or command after graduating from the course.
To qualify for the SAMS program, majors must be graduates of a U.S. staff college or enrolled in such a course that is scheduled to graduate before the SAMS course begins in June 2015.
The primary zone of eligibility includes majors in year group 2001 and earlier, 2003 and earlier, and 2002 who have completed a key developmental assignment at O-4 for their branch or functional area.
Warrant officers and Army civilians in grades GS-13 and GS-14 also are eligible, provided they have at least a bachelor’s degree. Warrant officers must be graduates of the WO Staff Course.
