A 20-year-old Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldier has been ordered held without bail for three days while police continue to investigate the shooting death of his 19-year-old wife at their Lakewood, Washington, apartment.

Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist says Skylar Nemetz shot his wife in the back of the head with an AR-15 rifle Thursday night as she was sitting at a computer. The bullet traveled through her head into the computer screen.

Lindquist said Friday that the shooting appears to be domestic violence.

Police say Nemetz told them he thought the gun was unloaded when he pointed it at his wife and pulled the trigger. He was jailed for investigation of manslaughter.

Neighbors said they heard a shot, screaming and then Nemetz calling for help. The woman died at the scene.
