COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A Fort Carson soldier convicted of murder in the shooting death of a fellow soldier when they were deployed in Jordan has been sentenced to 26 years of confinement and will be dishonorably discharged.
The Colorado Springs Gazette reports 24-year-old Spc. Jeffery Page was sentenced Thursday for the May 17, 2014, death of 19-year-old Spc. Adrian Perkins (pictured), of Pine Valley, California. Page, of Perrysburg, Ohio, was convicted Wednesday.
Perkins was shot in the head while he was carrying lunch to Page and another soldier at a guard post.
Prosecutors say Page disliked Perkins because of his lackluster soldier skills, but the defense argued Page was tired and bored when he aimed what he thought was an unloaded rifle at Perkins.
Page apologized in court Thursday, saying “I let my unit down. I let my squad-mates down.”
