COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A man who died after crashing an all-terrain vehicle in Colorado Springs was a decorated Fort Carson soldier who served in Afghanistan.
The Gazette reports 26-year-old Sgt. Miguel Diaz was riding with some friends when he crashed in a field Sunday afternoon. He was not working at the time of the crash.
Diaz was in his seventh year of enlistment and served as a mechanic in Afghanistan from July 2010 to April 2011. He received more than eight awards and was a two-time recipient of the Army Achievement Medal.
Diaz leaves behind a wife and two children.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says toxicology tests are pending.
