The Pentagon wants a sensor that can detect highly enriched uranium from inside a moving vehicle.
“The most challenging task is detection from an undisclosed survey vehicle moving at no more than typical urban speeds,” noted the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), in its research solicitation.

The device should be capable of detecting, while mounted in a vehicle traveling 60 kilometers per hour (about 37 mph), a 25-kilogram (55-pound) mass of highly enriched uranium positioned behind a concrete wall at a distance of 20 meters (about 22 yards).
