Unclassified sources of intelligence are taking on a growing importance for GEOINT, according to a report in Defense News.
Robert Cardillo, director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, described the increasing reliance on open information sources, such as social media, as a “seismic shift” — one that also calls for closer ties to industry.
“We have both a challenge and a warning,” Cardillo said at the 31st Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, Colorado on April 13. “We have only a limited time to transform our mindset and unleash the power of our people to leverage our enterprise and fulfill the potential that these massive changes offer.”
Today’s threats need to be understood and analyzed within hours or even minutes, he said.
