Strategists tied tour military and intelligence organizations, as well as the tech sector have fallen under increased pressure in the past few years due to the increased rate of technological advancement.
Now for the bad news!: That pressure will is about to significantly increase as a result of the Internet of Things (IoT), connected vehicles, wearable computing, 3-D and 4-D printing, and other rapidly evolving technologies. We are talking about a period of technological advancement that has moved from taking years down to a couple of months. The National Military Strategy (NMS) must immediately address these enhancements and the increasing pace of change they bring about. The resolution that they craft must address two large, complex aspects of this.
First, the competitive posture of the nation that fortifies and increases our economic stability through competitive advantage is constantly being challenged. Secondly, the technological advantage of the nation’s military and intelligence relies on technology and if an adversary has better technology, that advantage erodes or disappears altogetherall together. These are not stand alone issues. They are deeply intertwined: How well a nation is positioned for the battlefield of its future is highly dependent on the economic and technological status.
INSIGHT: One tech subject matter expert said, “If you are not in the lead technologically, the risk to your security is increased significantly.”
Recently while attending a U.S. tech event, the two leading tech companies presented the status of some highly advanced technology. One attendee tied into the nation’s military and intelligence industry privately spoke out in private and pointed out that those two ‘leading’ companies arewere not based in the United States. This is a real issue, . It is a highly complex, multifaceted problem that must be addressed now. As this and other technologies evolve outside the U.S., the military and intelligence industry falls under increased pressure as do many private-sector organizations, due to increased competitive pressures. The solution must involve government, military, intelligence organizations, and private business. The White House must address this now.! We can’t afford to fall further behind.
This day in history: Remembering more thanthe over 2,000 Americans that lost their lives when Japanese planes attacked the United States Pearl Harbor Naval Base in Hawaii.
