Police forces and defense agencies are increasingly turning to UAVs to secure critical facilities.
But Japanese manufacturer Secom has taken a new tack on crime-fighting: a UAV that not just detects criminals, but also automatically chases them and records their vehicle’s license plate number.
The UAV is equipped with a camera and an LED light. “While the flying robot isn’t particularly fast, reaching a top speed of six miles-per-hour, it could help to identify suspicious people and cars outside the range of a fixed camera,” according to Britain’s Daily Mail.[ http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-3359624/Drones-CHASE-thieves-Security-UAV-follow-invaders-make-sure-camera.html] “By following the suspect for more detailed images, security in the control panel could get a look at the face, body type, and clothing of a potential invader, along with a closer view of the car.”
