General Dynamics has provided an upgraded Identification Friend or Foe module to the Air Force.
The National Security Agency certified the upgraded Air Identification Friend or Foe Mode 4/5 KIV-78 Combined Interrogator/Transponder Applique.
The upgrade “reduces power consumption and supports platform functions, such as maintaining flight data from take-off to landing,” a General Dynamics news release said. “This updated module provides full encryption of friend or foe inquiries and replies, enabling aircraft to transmit their identity securely and allowing pilots to quickly identify possible threats beyond visible range.”
Deliveries will begin in February 2017.
