The US State Department has signed off on a proposed $70 million radar and radio sale for Egypt.
Egypt requested eight AN/MPQ-64F1 Sentinel radars as well as VRC-92E Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System (SINCGARS) radios. The prime contractor would be ThalesRaytheonSystems.
“The Government of Egypt intends to expand its existing air defense architecture to counter threats posed by air attack,” the Defense Security Cooperation Agency announcement said. “This will contribute to Egypt’s military goal of updating its capabilities while further enhancing interoperability among Egypt, the United States, and other allies.”
“Egypt will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment into its armed forces,” according to the DSCA announcement.
