Defense Information Systems Agency Director Lt. Gen. Ronnie Hawkins Jr. who plans to retire by the end of 2015, has joined the roster of keynote speakers at the upcoming C4ISR & Networks Conference.
Hawkins, DISA director since January 2012, has been a key figure in the Defense Department’s accelerating adoption of cloud computing, including the period when DISA was DoD’s designated cloud broker. When the department adopted a more diverse acquisition model, Hawkins took charge of redefining the agency’s new cloud role.
The conference takes place April 7 in Crystal City, Va. Other keynote speakers include DoD CIO Terry Halvorsen and LTG Mark Bowman, who is director of C4/ Cyber and Chief Information Officer of the Joint Staff, J6/CIO.

In a speech earlier this year, Hawkins said DISA’s reorganization and advancements in cloud and mobile computing planned over the next year will leave DoD well positioned for the future.
“By the end of this calendar year we should be solidly ensconced in this organization [model] such that we are working at cyber speed for where we want to go,” he said.
