The Navy’s Next Generation Jammer (NGJ) Increment 1 has passed an acquisition hurdle.
The system received approval to continue development after Frank Kendall, undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics, signed the Acquisition Decision Memorandum.
The NGJ is an external jamming pod intended to replace the AN/ALQ-99 pod on the EA-18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft.
The memorandum certified that the “proposed cost, schedule and performance objectives adhered to the proposed acquisition strategy and were in line with meeting war fighter requirements,” according to a Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) announcement.
NGJ Increment 1 will enter the engineering and manufacturing development phase, with critical design review scheduled for early- or mid-2017.
