Earlier in November, the Washington Post directed its readers to a Defense News commentary by Sen. Jim Risch (R-Idaho), the top Republican on the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, about rejecting sole-purpose nuclear policy.
“Declaring that the United States will never be the first to use a nuclear weapon represents the worst in potential policy,” Risch wrote. “It scares our friends, encourages our adversaries and damages the very nonproliferation goals it claims to advance.”
