Former FBI special agent Scott Bowman of Moreno Valley, California, has been sentenced to 36 months in prison following an investigation led by the Department of Justice’s Office of the Inspector General that showed he used embezzled funds to buy cars and cosmetic surgery for his wife.
Bowman misappropriated drug proceeds seized during the execution of three search warrants in 2014, allowing him to steal $136,462 for his personal use — all of which he will have to pay in restitution as ordered by U.S. District Judge Jesus G. Bernal of the Central District of California.
Bowman falsified reports and seizure proceeds and devised a detailed cover story in conjunction with a local police detective in order to conceal his activities.
According to court documents, those funds were used to buy and customize vehicles and for cosmetic surgery for Bowman’s spouse.
Bowman pled guilty to one count of conversion of property by a federal employee, one count of obstruction of justice, one count of falsification of records and one count of witness tampering.
