A Wisconsin man has been sentenced to more than four years in prison after he falsified service records in order to defraud the government.
Kenneth E. Jozwiak, 68, of Kenosha, Wis., pleaded guilty to unlawfully exhibiting a military discharge certificate, theft of government money, making false statements to federal agents and attempting to obstruct an official proceeding after being caught committing financial fraud.
Using a DD-214 certificate containing false claims that he was a highly decorated Vietnam War veteran, a four-time recipient of the Purple Heart and a Navy SEAL, Jozwiak received $2,289 in veteran’s entitlements between August and December 2014. When confronted by federal agents, he lied about his activities and service and attempted to tamper with a material witness.
