
The 371st Infantry Regiment, which served with the French Command, was the most decorated Black combat unit in the U.S. Army during WW1.

The monument lies in obscurity in the French countryside. Few people know of it, just as few people known of Burton Holmes. Said Gusky: “He’s an African American hero from South Carolina and icon of American history and no one even knows his name.”
