Military and civilian government employees interested in systems engineering can now apply for an accelerated master’s degree program being offered through a partnership of the MITRE Corporation and the University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Science.
The 12-month program, featuring coursework and faculty from UVA, will be held at MITRE’s McLean, Virginia, campus, and all salary, tuition, material and temporary assignment costs will be funded through an applicant’s sponsoring government employer.
“The program will combine six decades of system engineering experience with a contemporary and internationally recognized engineering curriculum to provide a disciplined, hands-on approach to dealing with the increasingly complex challenges facing our nation today,” MITRE President and CEO Alfred Grasso said in a news release.
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, math or science. Participants chosen by a selection committee comprised of MITRE and senior government chief engineers will work on projects in sectors including aviation, civil systems, cybersecurity, defense and intelligence, healthcare, homeland security, and the judiciary.
Applications are being accepted through May 26, and the program’s inaugural cohort will begin Aug. 23.
More information on the fellowship can be found on MITRE’s website.
