IBM has earned an authorization to operate its Softlayer Federal Cloud, according to a report in NextGov. The Federal Communications Commission granted the approval, giving the company a new customer and a second cloud service that complies with FedRAMP standards.
The authorization applies to only two IBM softlayer data centers which were designed with federal workloads in mind, in Ashburn, Virginia, and Richardson, Texas.
IBM is also trying to win Defense Department approval for another cloud service, Smart Cloud for Defense.
