Researchers at FireEye recently uncovered a successful spear-phishing campaign targeting Indian government officials, seemingly orchestrated by a group based in Pakistan.
The campaign used a weaponized Word document purporting to contain military paid grade information. Once opened, the malware contained within was designed to infiltrate government networks and create a foothold for future intrusions.
Federal Times Associate Editor Aaron Boyd sat down with John Hultquist, director of espionage analysis at iSIGHT Partners, a division of FireEye, to discuss why campaigns like these are successful, what ramifications this specific hack could have on the U.S. and other NATO partners and what attacks like this mean for the geopolitical landscape.
